I wish you could isolate the spoiler part of a review instead of just needing to hide the entire thing. That being because I mostly just have generalized praise for this movie.

A tried and true formula of a comedy horror. It balances both almost perfectly. It doesn't try too hard to be either or and loses it identity. It's simply entertaining through and through. The movie never lags and starts to feel boring.

With that being said the ending is very dumb but I can't bring myself to lower the rating over it.

So our lead teams up with the vampire at the end to kill the now turned former ally. This part is just silly and dumb for multiple reasons. After this has happened she acts as if she totally now trusts the vampire who spent the entire movie playing mind games. Yeah, lets just completely forget about the part where she lured you here as cattle with the intention of murdering and eating you. You can totally trust her now. It was equally as stupid that all of a sudden the vampire develops a moral compass and refuses to not only kill her but then protects her when her father shows up. Literally the entire reason she was selected is because of people the father perceived to have hurt his business.

I just thought it very odd the ending fumbled that badly. Not only was there ZERO reason for her to trust them. But absolutely zero reason for them to let her go. A quick end double kill would've been predictable but way better than what we got.

A fine addition to the Vampire genre with some excellent twists - The gore is spectacularly done and the overall ratcheting of tension keeps your attention. The characters (and their motivations) are each clumsily introduced early on by literally going 'round the room'. Wisely, certain elements of character backstories are withheld until later in the film. The central character puts in a brilliant and believable performance that keeps the audience conflicted over whether we should be feeling sympathy or revulsion towards her. I think a gaping logic plot hole lets the film down towards the end - SPOILER ALERT - (If the character Lambert was solely motivated by a desire to kill Abigail, why didn't he just arrange to do so when the kidnapped and drugged Abigail was originally taken to the old house?)

If is rare for a horror movie to give away it's twist in its trailer. And still rarer to hold your interest, after the aforementioned cardinal sin, for almost its entire length, because of the vivid characters, their banter and their gory endings.

The producers of Abigail did the first sacrilege before its release, leading to it crashing at the hustings.

The director and the script writers nearly pulled off a miracle by still making a gripping thriller, which looses some steam right at the very end.

This is an even- toned film. It maintains its momentum and its editing doesn't let the speed flag down. The last 20 minutes are slightly convoluted as if the writers couldn't think of a way to end it.

Liked it. Had the potential to be a real classic.
