I didn't expect much from this movie but really was pleasantly surprised. Of course it wasn't a mystery what would happen but it was nice seeing successful women that age falling in love. I loved seeing Andy Garcia in this movie!!

It was cute
Way better than I thought
I thought Book Club was going to be ridiculous, a silly comedy that made fun of old women dissecting racy scenes from 50 Shades of Gray. But it was actually really cute, and even heartwarming in the end! Yes, there are some silly parts, but it's not as vapid as the trailer lets you believe; trust me. You'll be hooked as soon as the beginning sequence shows old pictures of the leads and takes you through their biographies.
The four ladies in the book club are Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen, Diane Keaton, and Candice Bergen. Jane is the resident bachelor who likes to have flings, but a blast from her past (Don Johnson) makes her reconsider her view on permanent relationships. Mary is having trouble with her decades-old marriage (reunited with Craig T. Nelson, who played her husband in The Proposal). Inspired by 50 Shades of Gray, she thinks spicing things up in the bedroom will help. Diane is a widower. Her adult daughters (Alicia Silverstone and Katie Aselton) worry about her getting old and being alone, but she's not an invalid yet - airline pilot Andy Garcia keeps her on her toes with his unconventional courting! Candice is a recent divorcée. Caught unawares by her husband's infidelity, she finds herself completely lost in the singles scene. Online dating requires quite the learning curve.
With the four women bringing all different perspectives to the table, there's bound to be someone to identify with and root for. If you're looking for a silly gabfest, you can concentrate on those parts. If you're looking for meaning through middle age, you'll find it here, too. Rent it, even if you thought it didn't look good during the release. It's better than you think.
Such lazy and derivative writing
I have only seen elements of this 1000 times before. This film was only saved from a two star review based on the winning performances of some of the famous marquee actors. Andy Garcia actually saved this film. That's saying a lot
