A mom wrongly accuses her eight-year-old daughter of misbehavior, and reacts with a level of anger that's inappropriate. Why? She discovers her error, and attempts to repair the damage by taking on a task as difficult as any from Greek mythology: impossible, but she will do anything to accomplish it. Why? The daughter digs her heels in, and says that only one particular dish, the only thing remembered about a father who died when she was an infant, will suffice to make amends. Why not just an ice cream treat? The action moves graphically from gentle, more-or-less realistic renderings to a level of cartoon chaos as slapstick as anything that Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner ever showed us. At its core though, the film is about how to move past a shared trauma when one of the people who witnessed it was too young to understand what was going on. There's one single instant when the whole meaning of the movie changes, opening a window for the possibility of resolution for both mom and daughter. Very moving; I've been chewing on the film for a week now, and can't count the number of times a lump has risen in my throat. The song over the end credits is gorgeous, with lyrics by the two filmmakers, and music by the film's composer. Search on azlyrics for the song, and use some translation system if you're not a French speaker.

Moving past trauma shared with a person too young to have understood
Charming and Post-Modern
Chicken for Linda is a story of guilt and seeking forgiveness... by cooking a special dish even when you don't know how to cook.
Visually, the art's gorgeous. It's very simplistic, with human characters usually monochrome, but done in vibrant colours rather than grays, and the style evokes a living painting, down to seeming stroke lines. It makes for an interesting cinematic experience.
The characters are all endearing and you can tell this movie was done with a lot of heart. The aforementioned conflict mentoned above is done seriously despiste the seemingly silly solution, and there is trouble brewing the background, to not spoil things to much.
Overall a solid recommendation.
