Crackoon delivers

"Crackcoon" delivers exactly what you'd hope for in a film about a drug-fueled raccoon on a killing spree-and that's what makes it such a fun ride. It doesn't take itself too seriously and instead focuses on pure, unfiltered entertainment, hitting the mark effortlessly. Director Brad Twigg is a master at this genre and truly scores with Crackcoon, showcasing his ability to craft outrageous, sleazy horror that keeps audiences hooked.

The plot is as outrageous as it sounds, following the rabid raccoon as it tears through hunters, adulterous women, campers, and drug dealers. While the storyline is predictable, it works in the movie's favor, laying the foundation for absurdly wild kills and laugh-out-loud moments. The predictability only enhances the enjoyment, allowing viewers to sit back and revel in the madness.

One of the real showstoppers here is the raccoon itself, reminiscent of an evil version of the gopher from Caddyshack. It's ridiculous and unforgettable, paired perfectly with old-school makeup and gore FX that bring the chaos to life. The film doesn't shy away from blood-soaked moments, and for indie horror fans, that's what makes it a gem. It serves up a delightful mix of violence, humor, and pure absurdity, all with a nod to the indie horror spirit that never holds back.

Overall, Crackcoon is everything you'd want from a sleazy, over-the-top horror flick. It's unapologetically campy, laugh-out-loud funny, and delivers the kind of blood-soaked action that keeps horror lovers satisfied. Director Brad Twigg has knocked it out of the park with this one, making it a must-watch for fans of wild, indie horror fun!

Nature sucks but Crackcoon is awesome!

The popularity of "Cocaine Bear" inspired a lot of similarly themed movies, and Crackcoon is the best one so far. Crackcoon is actually a better horror movie than Cocaine Bear, because while I loved Cocaine Bear (we saw it in the theatre more than once), it never felt like a horror movie to me (I know most people do consider it horror, I think a lot of them never actually watched it), it felt more like a dark comedy/crime movie to me, like Fargo. Which is great! But Crackcoon is a legit comedy horror, and it's a great comedy horror, with lots of laugh out loud moments. I would rank this up there with Shaun of the Dead, Tucker & Dale vs Evil, and Snatchers, some of my favorite horror comedies.

Technically the movie is flawless. It's well acted, the lighting is great, there are no dark scenes where you can't see what is happening. The dialogue is all clear and intelligible (and often hilarious). The cinematography is top notch, I rarely mention that in my indie reviews but there were several scenes where I thought, wow, who was the cinematographer on this? It was Juan Sanchez and he did a fantastic job. I also love how Crackcoon uses a lot of short, quick shots, too often low budget movies just plop a camera down and record an entire scene with lengthy dialogue with one extended shot, and I find that can really slow down a movie. Speaking of budget, this is obviously low budget indie fare, but the production value is through the roof. No spoilers but I reached out to the director about a couple of scenes because parts of the movie looked so real, and it's because he used the real deal. This is a top tier indie horror movie, like Murdercise (my fav indie horror movie of 2023), you'll think they spent a lot more on making it than they did.

The raccoon is fantastic, they did a great job on the puppet. I really like how they did the raccoon POV shots. The practical effects are bloody and hilarious. There's blood flying around all over the place. Lots of kills, lots of guts, lots of blood spraying everywhere, it's exactly what I want out of a horror comedy. Cheesy one liners, funny pop culture references, and great kills. CGI is used sparingly, and well, and definitely adds to the hilarity.

Obviously I won't say who the Final Girl is, but I will say it's officially my favorite Final Girl of all time, and they really steal the show.

Jessa Flux is fantastic and hilarious as always, she was in my favorite scene in Murdercise screaming at Drew Marvick about her tits, and she's screaming about her tits in this movie as well. I think every indie horror movie should have Jessa screaming about her tits. I wouldn't complain. Morrigan Milam is in Crackcoon as well and after the movie hits streaming and everybody has a chance to see it, I'll be talking about one of her scenes in more detail because it's fantastic. Justin P. Martin is amazing as Frankie, Frankie is a great character and Justin plays him perfectly.

The movie is entertaining from start to finish, even the opening credits stand out, they're so well done, I was almost worried the rest of the movie would be a letdown because they set the bar really high, but this movie does not disappoint.

Mike Trebilcock did a great job on the movie's score, he sets the tone perfectly. Watch the end credits because there's a song by The Transylvania Hellhounds that is a real banger.

If you play the indie horror drinking game, this movie will have you drunk off your butt. Lots of familiar faces and tropes. Charlie was yelling at the screen throughout the movie. It was my most anticipated movie of 2024 (including big budget Hollywood releases), and it lived up to my lofty expectations. This is definitely a must watch this October. Check it out, you will not be disappointed! There is definitely a Crackcoon tattoo in my future.

This Movie Blows

This is a movie that was obviously aiming to be a "so bad that it's good" cult hit, yet it falls flat on it's crack covered face. However, if you're looking for horribly painful dialogue, Only Fans girls being naked on screen for no reason, and hilariously bad CGI, then you'll be pleasantly surprised. The only saving grace were the gay dealers. They were at least funny sometimes. The racoon looked like some sort of mutant ewok creature from hell. The "final fight" of the movie ends with the racoon unceremoniously getting its head blown off by a magic shotgun with no recoil. TLDR? This movie blows. Go watch Cocaine Bear instead.
