This movie is cunningly shot, well-acted, and has a laudable pace.
As often happens when one trailblazes their own mythos, landing the plane on the 'why, and what next?' is definitely this movies major flaw, as well as the quandry of what sort of effects to pursue when one doesnt have a ton of money, and you are hoping to visualize something that is, again, new. So, two issues, but the movie is so engrossing, it's easy to forgive a few regrettable special effects, and a curious, less than fulfulling ending.
Very happy to have chanced on this movie, a happy surprise for genre fans.

I really enjoyed this, something new.
Great idea, not so good execution
A lot of mixed feelings about this one.
I liked the atmosphere, liked some scenes with the creepy monster, I think the concept of a shape-shifting creature is great, and collective suicide is always an interesting thing to put on scene.
However, the acting is not great, the dialogue is terrible, the characters are forgettable as any cheap burger in a random truck food and the ending doesn't make any sense (so...who is gonna say/said the words again?). I also didn't understand the point of the brothers relationship, as it wasn't explored at all.
Decent characters keep a passable concept afloat
'Head Count' gets off to quite a slow start - and yet I wasn't bored. I think the main reason for this was the characters. Usually young, drunk and stoned characters are the worst of the worst. They can be absolutely detestable unless it's a film like 'American Pie' where they are written exceptionally well. 'Head Count's characters aren't on that level, but they were passable enough to keep things churning along while the story set itself up. At one point I actually thought to myself that I'd be fine with if this wasn't a horror movie and I just had to watch these characters do stuff for 90 minutes.
But it was a horror movie and the concept was passable and nothing more. It actually worked more as a mystery for me. Before we find out what is actually going on is a more interesting segment for me than what happens after we find out. There is the odd creepy and well done moment but really the whole thing is just building up to the big finale, and that ended up being a little bit of a let down. Just not enough time was spent in that finale to make it memorable and blow the audience away.
I did have a surprisingly good time all up with 'Head Count' though I have to say. I suspect it will be forgotten by this time next week, but for the 90 minutes I was watching it it was an enjoyable time.
