I had high hopes for this film mainly because of the scenery which, for all intents and purposes, was beautiful eye candy. That Austrian village seemed like the idyllic place to raise a family and have good friends by your side.
The acting, however, was just okay. Nothing special. To be fair, I saw the dubbed version which seemed weak. For instances, there were moments when the characters were screaming out their lines but the vocals dubs made sounded placid, tepid and lacking in emotion.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the incompleteness of the movie. Who rigged the ladder? That was never revealed. Who shot the police sergeant? That was never revealed. The police checked everyone's rifle but never thought to ask if the barn owner's son had a rifle? Lame.
It's interesting this film has three titles - Good Luck and Good Hunting, Appointment With Death and Waidmannsdank. Perhaps they should've stuck to one title such as The Ladder since that was its original focus. Of course, since that original focus drifted anyway, maybe the fact that the film was always in search of a proper title seemed appropriate for its inconclusiveness anyway.
Plot summary
Already most of the residents of a small mountain village have emigrated. Because all of the remaining people know each other, most of the affairs are handled among themselves. After one of the local hunter dies after a fall from a deer stand, the policeman Georg Treichel and policewoman Martina Schober believe on a tragic accident. But then it turns out that one of the rungs of the ladder was manipulated, and everything points toward a murder.

Austrian-German Mountain Intrigue
I watched this TV-movie by accident. I was looking for another murder mystery and this one popped up, so I watched it.
The title in English translates to something like 'Good Hunting'. Sorry if I got it wrong, I don't speak German. The movie is in German but has English sub-titles. The storyline is about a hunting club in a small mountain town struggling to survive its isolation. Everyone knows everyone, and some yearn to leave. But there is a murderer afoot. A big city detective (Pia Hierzegger) arrives to take over the case. Will she catch the murderer before they strike again? No spoilers. The plot is good. The production values are very good (especially for a TV movie). The acting is also very good. It is rather short at 88 minutes (TV) and could have used more character development. I wanted to know more about the lives of these people and their town. I wish I understood German so I could follow the dialog better. Pia Hierzegger also wrote the screenplay. She is talented. I hope I have more happy accidents and see movies from outside the USA.
