I enjoyed this. The idea wasn't terrifically new or groundbreaking, but I felt the writers gave some depth to the storyline and the actors were down to pull it off. The jump scares irritated me because I felt it cheapened the film...you don't have to make a loud, obnoxious noises to let you know something is scary, because the characters drove and sold the story. They should have stuck with the dramatic, "slow burn" aspect because they had the talent. But overall, it was well acted, directed and scripted and it was a breath of fresh air for this horror fan. I think some reviewers were a little harsh on this. It had a few flaws but was worth seeing IMO if you adore horror.

Plot summary
Paralyzed by his fear of dying, Miles Grissom takes out an advert offering 30000 dollars in reward money to the first person who can show him evidence of an angel, a demon, or prove that ghosts exist - anything to prove to him that we go on after our deaths. He narrows the responses down to three viable candidates - a scientist, a medium, and a worldly entrepreneur. Along with his protective mother, he embarks on an adventure through Los Angeles that will spiral into an unthinkable nightmare.

A few flaws, but solid horror
First door on the left.
Miles (Clark Freeman) doesn't like planes, trains, and automobiles. He has a fear of dying. He places an add in the papers for $30,000 for anyone who can prove any kind of afterlife or ghost. Sort of like the James Randi $1,000,000 paranormal challenge, but less. He weeds out the hoaxers and visits people who he think can prove it. His mother (Annette O'Toole) tags along like a third wheel on a date. Finally he accepts an odd call left on his voice mail. He didn't give out his number.
The film didn't have a lot of glitzy special effects. It relied on a decent tale with good characters and passable dialogue. There were light elements in the tale so as not to make it dry. It also provided me with proof positive that after I die, my cats are going to eat me. I like the film in that is was somewhat unique and didn't have a formula to follow.
Guide: No sex or nudity. Don't recall any swearing.
Paranormal Activity
Or be careful what you wish for. I think the theme of what is next, what is life and where are we heading, is not an alien one. Is there more out there, things that we can not see with our eyes? And will the movie help solve those questions? Well it's a movie so don't expect its answers to help too much.
It's also a weird "indie" movie, that will either be intriguing or annoying for you. There are a couple of things that feel cliché and very predictable. But it still manages to be unique in a way. The main actor may have some minor charisma issues but he still carries the movie to a degree. His drive to find something is noble to a point, though Don Quijote was noble in his quest too wasn't he? Watch at your own leisure
